  2. AVOID Brake Repair stores – Meineke, Midas, etc. They'll talk themselves blue-in-the-face trying to sell you EVERY brake component with 'reason' that is not valid. Call it Scare Tactics!

  3. Ive seen once a metal hose has gone bad and it was on a 6550 Valtra. Gas return line let air into the system which caused the tractor not to start up correctly. it always took almost a minute of cranking the engine before it started. After i changed the return line i had to replace the battery because well it was old and dindnt hold charge anymore.

  4. I took my car to firestone on wallisville road in houston 77015 to get a new tires. I happen to look up and caught them in my engine poking around. I asked what the hell are they doing in my engine when i asked for tires. They said it was just a courtesy engine inspection to see if i need anything else fixed. Never went back.

  5. Used to work for a chain out here in Cali, was let go because I wasn't meeting their "numbers". While the other techs were up selling what ever possible and exceeding theirs. I'm a way too honest auto technician to scam customers.

    Keep up the good work!!

  6. Back when I had my Chevy Silverado, the Centennial GMC dealer in Vegas kept telling me my oil pan gasket was leaking. Dunno where the oil was going because I wasn't losing any volume and there were no stains in my driveway!

  7. when it comes to tires even if it has lots of tread one should always take the DOT date into consideration. If the tire has lots of tread but is 10 years old it should be replaced as they do lose structural integrity with age. with that said in that case you should be selling that customer cheaper 45,000 tires if you are pushing 80k tires on that customer your ripping them off given they probable drive vary little.

  8. It's the same thing with most Cell-Phone Repair Chains. They'll sell you a " Official Apple " LCD, and it turns out that it's actually just a screen that they bought from AliExpress for 5 Bucks, but yet they charge you 110$ for the entire repair.

  9. Please help… I have a 2013 ford fusion titanium with a 2.0l Turbo… Out of the blue it starting making a noise from the engine… its not a rod or spun bearing type noise, or valve tap… I thought the turbo was coming apart, but its not that either.. right from startup it goes like Tap, tap tap… taptap, Tap…. tap tap…..tap….taptaptaptaptap….tap….tap tap…tap…taptap.. Very RANDOM!!! With my stethoscope, i listen and can't determine where in the motor its coming from.. whatever it is, it hitting hard enough that you can hear it through the who motor… But it also runs just fine and no lights… What could it be???? PLEASE HELP… ps. It only has 80k miles.

  10. I've got a few stories but one I remember from the early 90's was when I took my 79 Grand Prix to a tiny little mexican tire repair joint in the Montrose area of Houston to repair a leak in the RF tire. After fixing the leak and mounting the wheel the young mechanic pointed at my brake pads and said they were worn out and offered to replace them. I looked and the pads (top of the line ceramics installed by me) had about 3/8" of meat on them (barely worn) so I showed him my bent finger tips about 3/8" from my palm and pointed at the pads. His blank expression said "owned by a gringo"…lol

  11. Hey Scotty! I know you don’t recommend Chevy, especially a Cruze, but I got one handed down to me so if it’s free, it’s for me! 2014 1.4L Turbo with 61k miles. It has a P0299 CEL. I bought a new turbo for $500. Doing the work myself to save money. Anything I should do before/after replacing the turbo? A mechanic looked at it, he is 100% sure it’s the wastegate on the turbo that’s damaged.

  12. I don't know any shop that balances for free anymore. You even pay for mounting sometimes, even if you buy the tires from the same place. Then of course there are the added taxes. Metal lines on the Ford Taurus will rust out. They are right up against the firewall behind the engine and you can't see them without a mirror or a endoscope. They get rusty and eventually rupture. They are a real PITA to replace. Canadian Tire used to have a REALLY bad rep for ripping people off, they're quite a bit better now. Thanks for the heads up Scotty. Somehow I don't think that there are too many good guys left you left.
